With project templates, you can quickly recreate projects that you do frequently.
When an existing template is used in creating a project, the template’s tasks and associated fields (category, etc.) are copied into the new project. You can customize the project as you see fit, adding or deleting tasks, if necessary.
To Create a Project Template
There are two ways to create a project template. The first involves creating it from scratch.
- Click either Work > Projects on the Main menu, or Projects on the Quick menu.
- On the Projects page, click Add Template.
Click Add Template - On the Create a Template window, by default, category is set to uncategorized. You may leave this as-is, or if you have already created project categories (for more information, see Adding a New Project Category), select an applicable category from the list.
The Create a Template window - By default, type is set to Local Template, meaning it is only available for your own use. You may change this to Global Template if you want the template to be available to other users. In addition, all templates are Read-only, meaning they are not editable by anyone.
- Enter a title and description for the template.
- Select a team that will work on the project from the list.
- Click Create.
To Create a Project Template Using Another Template
The second way to create a project template involves using another template.
- Click either Work > Projects on the Main menu, or Projects on the Quick menu.
- On the Projects page, click Add Template.
- On the Create a Project window, check the Use a template box, then select a project template from the list.
AccuTask allows creating a new template based on an existing template - By default, the new template inherits the category and template type (Local or Global) from the
old template on which it is based. You may change the category and type, if applicable.
NOTE: Local Templates are only available for your own use while Global Templates are available for use by other users. In addition, all templates are Read-only, meaning they are not editable by anyone.
- Enter a title and description for the template.
- Optionally, select a team that will work on the project from the list.
- Click Create.
To Edit a Project Template
- Click either Work > Projects on the Main menu, or Projects on the Quick menu.
- On the Projects page, click the Templates tab.
Click the Projects tab - On the Templates page, look for the template to be edited from the list, click the Gear icon to the right, then click Edit Template.
Click Edit Template - Make your changes to the template, then click Save.
To Delete a Project Template
- Click either Work > Projects on the Main menu, or Projects on the Quick menu.
- On the Projects page, click the Templates tab.
Click the Projects tab - On the Templates page, look for the template to be deleted from the list, click the Gear icon to the right, then click Delete Template.
Click the Delete button - Click Yes on the message to confirm the deletion.
Next Steps
Creating a project template is only the first step in making use of it in your project. The next step involves adding tasks to the template to make it usable. To further ease the process, you might want to organize these tasks into categories. For more information, see Managing Tasks.
